Our Story
Rooted in care, shaped by social work and brought to life through farming.
For 15 years, founder Claire Olendo has worked as a social worker alongside children, families and communities. Her professional journey has centred on care, support, livelihoods and creating pathways to opportunity.
Claire’s first attempt at poultry farming began in 2013. Like many first-time farmers, she learned through doing — through the routines, the costs, the decisions, the setbacks and the lessons that only become clear when you are responsible for the birds yourself.
Those experiences stayed with her. Over time, the idea grew beyond simply owning a farm. What if a working farm could also become a place where other people could experience farming before committing heavily to it? What if technology could make everyday farm management simpler? What if access to land, support and community could remove some of the barriers that stop people before they begin?
Momntie’s Farm grew from those questions. Today, it is a Kenyan social enterprise rooted in poultry production and growing into an ecosystem that connects food production, smart farming, practical experience, farm access, farmer empowerment and community impact.
The Meaning Behind Momntie’s
Momntie’s is a name formed from two words: Mom and Auntie.
For Claire, those words are more than family roles; they reflect a way of being — caring deeply, creating room for others, offering support, believing in second chances and genuinely wanting to see people thrive.
As a social worker, a mother and an auntie, Claire has always found joy in nurturing others and creating spaces where people feel supported, valued and welcome. That spirit is what gives Momntie’s its meaning.
It is the warmth of a mother, the extra care of an auntie, and the belief that people deserve opportunities, encouragement and room to begin again.
At Momntie’s Farm, that same philosophy guides how we farm, share knowledge, create access, build technology and engage with communities.
