Our story
Momntie is what you get when you put Mom and Auntie together — the caregiver who nurtures, feeds, and invests in the people around her. That is not just our name. It is how this farm works.
How it began
“After my father’s burial in 2013, I came home with six chickens. Not a business plan. Not a strategy. Just six chickens on a balcony on Garissa Road, and something in me that needed to care for something living. I had spent years caring for other people’s children and supporting women who had survived things no person should survive. Those six chickens were, in a strange way, the beginning of putting that same instinct into something of my own.”

In 2020 we committed to scaling commercially for the first time — and faced a hard setback with a flock that did not perform as promised. We made difficult decisions and stepped back. In June 2024 we restarted from day-old chicks, this time with a clearer vision and a name that means something. In February 2026, Momntie’s Farm was officially registered. Everything we learned along the way is built into how the farm runs today.

Why we farm
Claire Adeka Olendo is a social worker, community development practitioner, and social impact entrepreneur with over 16 years of experience in human rights, survivor empowerment, economic justice, and community-centered programming. She spent those years working in shelters and resource centers, walking alongside children and women who had survived trafficking, violence, and poverty. One challenge came up constantly: providing nutritious food. Chicken and eggs — which can be produced affordably at scale — were often out of reach of shelter budgets.
We knew how to solve that. Momntie’s Farm was always going to be commercial, because it has to sustain itself. But it was never going to be only commercial. Feeding people and caring for people are not separate acts. They are the same act.
What we stand for
Care
Every bird is raised with documented health protocols. Every trainee is followed up after their programme ends. Every donation is the beginning of a relationship, not a one-off transaction.
Honesty
Supply updates are timely and transparent. When stock is running low, we say so early. Our records reflect real numbers, and we share the lessons, not just the wins.
Community
Our farm helpers are treated with dignity, paid fairly, and celebrated by name. Community partners are collaborators, not beneficiaries.
Growth
We are always learning, and we share the journey openly. Our training is grounded in what we actually do on the farm every day.
Sustainability
Our farming practices are documented and visible. Our kienyeji breeding prioritises genetic integrity. We farm in a way we are proud to show our community.
