Farm With Us
Three ways in — experience it, find space for it, or learn alongside people already doing it.
Farm Before You Farm
Thinking about farming? Experience it before you invest heavily in it.
Starting a farm can require significant investment in birds, housing, equipment, feed, labour and time. For many aspiring farmers, the challenge is not a lack of interest — it is uncertainty about what running a farm actually involves.
Farm Before You Farm creates a practical pathway where aspiring farmers can learn, experience and make informed decisions before investing in their own farming journey.
Depending on the agreed programme, a participant can take part in a complete production cycle — for example, a broiler cycle — while being actively involved in the decisions and day-to-day realities of the farm.
What participants can experience
- Planning the production cycle and understanding the timetable.
- Budgeting and understanding the major cost areas.
- Purchasing birds, feed and other agreed inputs.
- Daily flock care, biosecurity and farm routines.
- Record keeping and use of farm-management tools.
- Understanding feed, mortality, stock and other operational realities.
- Marketing, pricing and identifying a route to market.
- Selling the final product and reflecting on the full cycle.
Ownership and selling
Where the arrangement is structured as a participant-owned production cycle, the birds and final product belong to the participant because they have funded the agreed cycle. At maturity, they can sell through their own market or, where mutually agreed in advance, explore a sale through Momntie’s Farm.
The purpose is not to guarantee profitability or farming success. It is to give people practical exposure to production, costs, decisions and selling so that their next decision is based on experience rather than assumption.
Rent-A-Farm
Have the farming dream but not the land?
Access to land and production space can be one of the biggest barriers to starting or expanding a farming project. Rent-A-Farm creates a pathway for individuals or groups who are ready to farm but may not want — or may not yet be able — to invest in buying land and building permanent infrastructure.
Arrangements can be designed around the type of farming, available space, location, duration and agreed level of support. Depending on the site, this may include poultry as well as other suitable farming activities such as pigs, goats, cattle or crop production.
Possible arrangements
- Defined production-cycle access.
- Longer-term farm-space leasing.
- Existing farmers looking for additional production space.
- Aspiring farmers moving from experience into their own project.
- Individuals planning for retirement into farming who want a gradual transition.
Rent-A-Farm is not one fixed package. The arrangement should match the farmer, the land and the farming activity.
Farmer Empowerment
Knowledge grows when it is shared.
Momntie’s Farm creates opportunities for people to learn through practical exposure, shared experience, support and conversation. We do not present ourselves as having every answer, and we do not promise a particular outcome.
Our role is to create spaces and avenues where people can ask questions, see how farming works in practice, use the tools we have developed and make more informed decisions about their own journey.
- Practical farm exposure
- Mentorship and support conversations
- Farm visits and shadowing where appropriate
- Shared operating lessons
- Peer learning and farmer conversations
- Access to farm-management tools and useful resources
We don’t believe people learn farming by watching from the sidelines. We believe they learn by being part of the journey.
